MUSHROOM MATRIX HORSE MAKSYMILIAN AND RIDER JANE HANNIGAN ARE 2007 U.S. DRESSAGE FEDERATION REGION 8 GRAND PRIX CHAMPIONS

Saugerties, New York - A Mushroom Matrix-eating horse is the 2007 U.S. Dressage Federation Region 8 Grand Prix Champion.

Maksymilian, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding ridden by Grand Prix dressage rider Jane Hannigan, of Massachusetts, earned the championship title during competition at the New England Dressage Association's Fall Dressage Festival, held September 12-16.

Dressage is one of America's fastest growing equestrian sports. The sport is governed by the U.S. Dressage Federation, which is divided into nine geographic regions across the U.S. Each region holds regional championships, most of which take place in the late summer. Region 8 includes the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Maksymilian has been a Mushroom Matrix-eating horse since the winter of 2007 and Hannigan believes the Matrix has played a big role in helping her and "Mak" as he is affectionately called, ride their way to victory. "Every year in the past that I've come here to the NEDA show and regional championships, he's been spooky, on edge and incredibly difficult to control," Hannigan said. But this year, Mak was completely relaxed and focused - something many riders are discovering with horses that are on the Mushroom Matrix.

Hannigan is a strong supporter of the Mushroom Matrix and feeds it to several horses in her barn. "I have a couple other horses on the Matrix. One is a big draft cross that's very spooky and I've had the same reaction as with Mak. This horse has become more centered and focused since he began eating the Matrix," Hannigan said.

Hannigan said she'll have to learn to ride the "new" Mak. "It's like a whole different horse in there. So, I need to learn how to ride my relaxed horse," she said. A more focused horse isn't the only benefit Hannigan said she's noticed with horses on the Mushroom Matrix. "I've also noticed with Mak that the recovery rate is faster after exercise and I work him fairly hard. I also started feeding the Matrix to my young horse and he's building more muscle and coming along faster."

The Mushroom Matrix is a special blend of mushroom varieties that are grown organically in the U.S. by San Marcos, California-based Golden Gourmet Mushrooms.
