More Research Supports Health Benefits of Mushrooms
The amount of research backing the health claims of mushrooms is clearly evident in a recently published report by the Mushroom Bureau and authored by nutritionists Jane Clarke and Sarah Schenker. The report, titled "Mushrooms: The New Superfood," tracks research from around the world that has examined the health benefits of mushrooms, particularly the more commonly eaten white mushroom.
Clarke is a widely-known nutritional expert and author of numerous books on nutrition. She has long been an advocate of mushrooms as an important part of a healthy diet. One of the central benefits of mushrooms is that they are high in antioxidants. One recent study cited in the report was led by Dr. Robert Beelman of Pennsylvania State University, which found that white mushrooms are loaded with the powerful antioxidant L-ergothioneine.
In the report, Clarke admits that she herself found the research astounding, commenting that she had always known mushrooms provide numerous important nutrients, "but new research, summarized in this report, is suggesting that mushrooms, or substances extracted from mushrooms, may have the potential to help fight cancer and heart disease." As Clarke put it, "There has never been more reason to include mushrooms in your diet."
The report by Clarke and Schenker provides references to numerous studies that provide evidence of the health benefits of mushrooms. Hence, it's the perfect starting point for those interested in learning more about the role of mushrooms in promoting and maintaining good health. Several websites provide links to the report, one of which is http://www.sterckx.com/mushroom_superfood.pdf.
The desire to provide both people and animals with easy access to the health benefits of this super food called mushrooms is what led to the creation of the Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements.
