Research Continues to Back Health Benefits of Reishi Mushrooms
Decades of research on the potential health benefits of Reishi mushrooms continues to support what Asian cultures have long known - medicinal mushrooms provide tremendous health benefits and Reishi, one of the medicinal mushroom varieties used in Mushroom Matrix nutritional supplements, appears to be one of the most beneficial of all.
In Asia, Reishi has long been considered one of the leading medicinal mushrooms, which has prompted some Western holistic health practitioners to dub it the "magic mushroom." That name is even used in a new book that tracks the decades of research on Reishi titled The Power of the Japanese Red Reishi: The Real Magic Mushroom. The work is the result a collaborative study by medical anthropologist Meg Jordan and Canadian nutritionist Brad King who also report their own findings in the book.
Jordan and King note that "labs from Japan to Germany have been confirming what ancient herbalists have purported for centuries. The potent immune modulator, beta-glucans, a polysaccharide that is non-toxic and can be taken on a daily basis, exerts an effect on natural killer cells, T and B cells, macrophages, and seems to 'train' the immune system to perform its cytotoxic clean up more effectively."
In addition, they note that research has found that the Red Reishi also has the highest amount of ganoderic acid of any plant. And studies indicates that ganoderic acid provides cardiovascular health benefits by lowering cholesterol levels, reducing platelet stickiness, reducing triglycerides, and lowering high blood pressure.
And, that's not all. Other research into the benefits of Reishi indicates that this medicinal mushroom variety also helps to protect the liver, correct blood sugar and can counter the impacts of stress and chronic inflammation on the body. This mushroom variety is even being studied for use in the fight against such diseases as Alzheimer's, cancer and HIV.
Although Western medicine may be a bit slower to accept the health benefits of medicinal mushrooms, it's not so with many Asian nations. Reishi's health benefits are widely accepted in Japan, so much so that the Japanese government has officially listed Reishi as approved for use in the treatment of cancer.
The potent benefits of Reishi, as well as many other medicinal mushroom varieties, are easily obtained on a daily basis with the help of the Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements. Produced from organically-certified medicinal mushrooms grown in the U.S. by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, the Mushroom Matrix offers nutritional support for humans, horses and small animals.
