[June 25, 2008] Niacin-Rich Mushrooms One of Several Foods that Could Help Slow Alzheimer's Disease

                June 25, 2008

Niacin-Rich Mushrooms One of Several Foods that Could Help Slow Alzheimer's Disease

In recent years, much research has focused on the role of nutrition in slowing the aging process. One of the greatest concerns of aging adults is the loss of mental acuity, but on a positive note, research is indicating that nutrition may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's Disease and dementia.

One of the most notable studies was published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry. That study, first published in August 2004, found evidence that regular consumption of niacin-rich foods seem to protect against the onset of Alzheimer's Disease. Previous research had indicated that severe niacin deficiency can lead to dementia.

The six-year study on Alzheimer's and nutrition, performed by researchers from the Chicago Health and Aging Project, concluded that eating niacin-rich foods could reduce the risk of Alzheimer's by as much as 70 percent. Mushrooms are one food high in niacin and in fact, in the study, crimini mushrooms in particular were cited for their high niacin content.

Also worth noting is that researchers distinguished between niacin found in vitamins and niacin found in foods. The study found that niacin found in vitamins does not appear to offer the same protection as that found in foods. Hence, researchers concluded that the best protection was to eat foods rich in niacin on a regular basis, mushrooms being one of those foods.

Mushroom Matrix nutritional supplements were produced with the goal of providing a simple way to obtain these health benefits of mushrooms. The Matrix is a whole, natural food. In contrast, many vitamin and other nutritional supplements contain synthetic or extracted chemicals and nutrients whose absorption, cell penetration and physiologic effects are questionable.

Matrix nutritional supplements consist of whole, organically-grown mushrooms that have been dried and ground into powder form. As a nutritional food supplement, it provides humans and other mammals with literally thousands of natural enzymes, proteins and antioxidants.

The Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements for humans, horses and small animals are produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California. More information on the nutritional benefits of mushrooms, as well as links to some of the research behind the theory of the Matrix, can be found at www.mushroommatrix.com.

Matrix Equine Team Members Jane Hannigan and Maksymilian Invited to Perform at Breast Cancer Benefit

Matrix Equine Team members Jane Hannigan and Maksymilian will lend their support to breast cancer research by performing at the Potomac Valley Dressage Association's Ride for Life Dancing Horse Challenge in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Jane and Mak will perform the Grand Prix freestyle they used when competing at this year's Dressage World Cup in Europe.

The Potomac Valley Dressage Association (PVDA) is the second oldest dressage club in the United States and was founded in 1964. The Ride for Life is now in its fifth year. It was created by former PVDA president and breast cancer survivor, Pat Artimovich. This year's show, scheduled for June 28-29, has a goal of raising $70,000 for the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Center.

Jane and Mak, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, have been Matrix Equine Team members since the winter of 2007 and Jane is quick to credit the Matrix with helping make Mak a calmer, more focused competitor. The pinnacle of their successes since starting on the Matrix was qualifying to compete in this year's Dressage World Cup - the dressage world championships - where they were the highest-placed American pair.

Mak is one of many high-performance competition horses using the Matrix. A growing number of riders and trainers around the world, including top dressage riders Steffen and Shannon Peters, are discovering the many health benefits for their horses, which includes the promotion of healthy joints, immune system support and increased stamina and muscle development.

Produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, Matrix nutritional supplements are made from 100 percent certified organic mushrooms. For more information on Matrix nutritional supplements for horses, humans and small animals, visit www.mushroommatrix.com.

Culinary Students Learn the Value of Mushrooms with Help from Mushroom Matrix Parent Company

Students from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, have learned the value of mushrooms in cooking and health during two special "mushroom" lunches held at Epazote Oceanside Steakhouse Restaurant in Del Mar, California.

The lunches were prepared by Epazote Executive Chef Justin Hoehn. In addition to featuring King Trumpet, Maitake and Brown and White Beech mushrooms from Golden Gourmet Mushrooms, producer of Mushroom Matrix nutritional supplements, the lunch also featured award-winning wines from the Matrix's own Dr. Mushroom, a.k.a. Dr. Marvin Hausman. Dr. Hausman and his wife, Deborah, own Quailhurst Vineyard Estate in Oregon.

Twice this year, Culinary Institute students have had this unique opportunity to enjoy a meal of mushrooms and fine wine. One group was hosted in February and a second group this June. Each time, the meal was preceded by a presentation by Golden Gourmet's Steve Farrar on the "Kingdom of the Mushroom." The presentation gave students a quick course in such topics as mushroom biology, cultivation techniques, classifications of edible mushrooms, mushroom consumption statistics and patterns, mushroom nutrition facts, mushroom promotion strategies, use of mushrooms as a main dish or meat substitute and the health benefits of medicinal mushrooms.

Mushrooms are gaining in popularity as one of nature's "super foods." High in antioxidants, beta-glucans and polysaccharides, mushrooms are a perfect food and are increasingly turning up on restaurant menus. Through these links with Culinary Institute students, Golden Gourmet is working to help the next generation of chefs understand not only that the wonderful flavors of mushrooms can enhance many dishes but they also add a healthy dose of nutrition to any meal.

Research into the benefits of medicinal mushrooms in the treatment of disease has indicated that mushrooms can play an important role in combating a number of diseases, including cancer, heart disease, immune system disorders and diabetes. The desire to provide both people and animals with easy access to the health benefits of this super food called mushrooms is what led to the creation of the Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements.

Matrix products are 100 percent certified organic and the proprietary blends used to create Matrix products contain up to ten of the most nutritious varieties of medicinal mushrooms. For more information on Matrix products and the health benefits of mushrooms, visit www.mushroommatrix.com.

Fans Raise Funds to Send Sue Jaccoma and Matrix Horse Wadamur to National Dressage Championships

Dressage rider Sue Jaccoma and her Matrix horse Wadamur will be competing in this year's Intermediaire Dressage Championships after all.

The pair, ranked among the top five in the U.S. in the Intermediaire Level, had qualified for the championships, but the $25,000 cost for Jaccoma to ship herself and Wadamur from Maine to California, where the championships are being held, was out of her reach. That was before supporters stepped up to a challenge issued by six-time Olympic rider Robert Dover. During his recent clinic in Massachusetts for the New England Dressage Association, Dover, after being told by Jaccoma that she could not afford the trip to California, turned to the audience of spectators and issued a challenge.

"Riders need support. Sue is a hard-worker with a world-class horse. They are very good representatives for your part of the country and it's a pity she can't go to San Juan Capistrano," Dover said. "I think all of you need to find a way to send her to California."

NEDA members responded by creating the Sue Jaccoma California Dreamin' Fund after an anonymous member who heard Dover's comments offered to match any amount raised. As of June 13, the fund had raised nearly $6,000, with the match, that brings the amount to nearly $12,000 and still growing.

Wadamur, called "Moe" by Jaccoma, is an eight-year-old Hanoverian gelding. Jaccoma started him on the Matrix earlier this show season and has been astounded by the results. "I love the Matrix. I think it's really made him bloom. It has sort of addressed his whole system and I think he feels great on it," Jaccoma said. "He's gotten much stronger and happier - the whole nine yards."

Jaccoma said she's thrilled that she and Wadamur, who is sure to one day be a leading international dressage horse for the U.S., can attend this year's Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Festival of Champions in San Juan Capistrano. She's a bit astounded by the outpouring of support, but also very grateful.

"You know, if I never got to California, if I never actually got a cent of the money, all that matters is that it's so wonderful that everybody cared that much. When you ask, 'What are some really good moments in your life?', I say, this is one of them. It feels totally awesome. It's a bit humbling to accept all of this, but I'm thrilled," she said.

The Matrix is a whole food composed of organically-grown medicinal mushrooms that provides overall good nutrition for horses, as well as humans and small animals. That good nutrition results in overall better health and that, Jaccoma said, is what sold her on the Matrix. Produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, Matrix nutritional supplements are 100 percent certified organic. To learn more about the Matrix visit www.mushroommatrix.com.

[June 13, 2008] Mushroom Matrix Partners with Pacific Equine Dental Institute to Launch New Equident

June 13, 2008<br><br>

Mushroom Matrix Partners with Pacific Equine Dental Institute to Launch New Equident <br><br>

Mushroom Matrix has partnered with Pacific Equine Dental Institute to create the new Equident nutritional supplement for horses. Equident is a special blend of medicinal mushrooms designed to address the bacterial infections that can lead to gum disease in horses. Tooth decay and gum disease are much more prevalent than many horse owners realize. Equine dental practitioners estimate that 90-95 percent of horses will develop some form of gum disease in their lifetimes, and yet often, the initial signs to unnoticed. Gum disease can easily begin when a horse's teeth are misaligned. This allows spaces to open between teeth with the result that food particles become trapped between them. When these food particles ferment, they release bacteria that attack the periodontal supporting structures. Unhealthy teeth and gums often go unnoticed and the leading cause of tooth loss in the horse is periodontal disease. The gums are the supporting tissue and when this supporting structure depletes, it is inevitably followed by tooth loss. <br><br>

Gum disease is a form of inflammation and infection and the term "gingivitis" refers to an early phase of gum disease. Gingivitis is an inflammatory response within the gums caused by the accumulation of plaque - a soft, sticky colorless film of bacteria above the gum line. The new Matrix Equident works to address the bacterial infection that can lead to gum disease. <br><br>

Equident is a proprietary blend of four medicinal mushrooms, each of which plays an important role in promoting healthy gums. It is a holistic and natural approach to health care that helps prevent gum disease by promoting overall good health in a horse's system. Healthy tissue in the mouth is a reflection of the health status of the entire body of the horse and the four medicinal mushrooms in Equident work in harmony to promote good health through good nutrition. <br><br>

The Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements is produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California. The mushrooms used in Matrix products are 100 percent, certified organic and are grown in the United States. Matrix supplements are available in formulas for humans, horses and small animals and provide a multitude of health benefits. Matrix Soars Above Water at the 10th Annual Summer Longboard Classic <br><br>

The Matrix will be on hand for the 10th Annual Summer Longboard Classic surfboard competition. The event is scheduled for June 14 and the Matrix is one of several sponsors that will be cheering on contestants in the surfing event. <br><br>

Hosted by the Pacific Beach Surf Club in Southern California, the Longboard Classic is an important fundraiser for the WILDCOAST Clean Water Now Campaign. The campaign works to eliminate health threats to those who use the oceans with the focus being on eliminating the pollution that crosses borders from sewage flows. WILDCOAST is actively involved in addressing this important health issue through community outreach and awareness. <br><br>

The surfing contest, held at Tourmaline Surfing Park, is a perfect sponsorship venue for the Matrix because an important goal of the Matrix is to provide people with the nutritional support that will help them live healthier lives. And living a healthier life means having the ability to enjoy such activities as surfing well into one's senior years. <br><br>

[June 6, 2008] Top Classical Trainer Bettina Drummond Joins the Growing Matrix Equine Team

                June 06, 2008

Top Classical Trainer Bettina Drummond Joins the Growing Matrix Equine Team

Bettina Drummond, one of the most respected classical trainers and riders in the world, has joined the growing Matrix Equine Team. Bettina started feeding the Matrix in the spring of 2007 to Ilyad, one of her top Lusitano breeding stallions, in hopes the Matrix would help him hold his weight during breeding season.

Bettina was so pleased with the results on Ilyad that she has since placed several of her other stallions on the Matrix. Among them is her Quarter Horse stallion "Vousy." Bettina is a true believer in riding as a form of art and she frequently provides riding exhibitions, particularly for charities. She and Vousy are planning exhibitions for this upcoming year to show off the healthy look one can see on a Matrix horse.

"We are thrilled that a horsewoman of Bettina's caliber has opted to join the Matrix Equine Team," said Matrix Vice President Keith Manfred. "Bettina is someone who would never support a product that didn't prove itself to her and we see her support of the Matrix as a positive message to other riders and trainers that the Matrix really does promote overall good health in horses."

Ecuyer Bettina Drummond was seven years old when she was brought to Portugal to study with Nuno Oliveira, one of the 20th century's greatest equestrian masters. Bettina spent the next 17 years in training with Mr. Oliveira, becoming one of his leading students. Along with Mr. Oliveira, Bettina has been both influenced and coached by some of Europe's finest equestrian trainers, among them General Durand,Ecuyer en Chef and Commandant of the French National Equestrian School in Saumur and Lieutenant Colonel Paolo Angioni of the Italian Cavalry.

Bettina travels throughout the U.S. and Europe to teach and train in the French classical system, the goal of which is the attainment of absolute lightness with horse and rider in complete balance and harmony. It is this ultimate lightness in each horse that Bettina has pursued throughout her equestrian career. And that career has been one of tremendous success as a breeder, trainer and teacher. She earned her instructor's license at the young age of 16 and her trainer's license at the age of 19.

Equestrian talent has a long history in Bettina's family. Her early 18th century French ancestor, the Count de Melfort, was commander of the Cavalry School at Versailles. Bettina has dedicated her life to continuing this family tradition of pursing excellence in horsemanship and sharing that knowledge. She has the distinct honor of having been invited to ride horses at the French National Equestrian School in Saumur where she was presented with a Hermes silk scarf in gratitude for her performance.

Evidence of her talent as a rider and trainer is visible each time she performs with one of her own horses. She has trained several of her own horses to perform the movements of haute ecole and has showcased their talent and hers at exhibitions throughout the U.S. She was both trainer and rider of the famous Andalusian stallion, Embajador XI which served as the 1996 Breyer Model Andalusian Stallion.

Bettina is also a highly successful breeder, particularly of Lusitanos, and a trainer of young horses. Both her own young horses and those she has trained for clients have received high ratings and awards in breed competitions. Bettina is also considered one of the world's foremost experts on work-in-hand. This approach, which is excellent for addressing physical weaknesses through the use of gentle repetition and balance adjustments, would be a lost art if not for remaining experts such as Bettina.

Among the breeds, the Lusitano is clearly Bettina's favorite and she is an acknowledged expert on the breeding, training and riding of this breed. However, she has excelled in working with horses of all breeds, as her Quarter Horse stallion Vousy shows. Bettina believes that there is never an end to learning and finds great pleasure in discovering something new from each horse and each breed with which she works.

The Matrix welcomes Bettina to its team! A growing number of top riders and trainers are discovering the benefits of Matrix nutritional supplements. These benefits include promoting healthy joints, reducing inflammation, boosting the immune system, increasing stamina and reducing stress and anxiety.

Mushroom Matrix Equine Team Members Shannon and Steffen Peters Collect Blue Ribbons at 2008 Del Mar National Horse Show

Mushroom Matrix Equine Team members Shannon and Steffen Peters collected a fair number of blue ribbons at the recent 2008 Del Mar National Horse Show. Held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, California, the prestigious Del Mar National, running this year from April 17 through May 4, features dressage, hunter/jumper and western competition.

Shannon and Steffen are two of America's leading dressage riders. This husband and wife team have amassed a large collection of blue ribbons in their show careers and during the dressage portion of the Del Mar National, held April 24-27, they collected several more. Shannon, who not only feeds the Mushroom Matrix to her horses but also takes it herself, took a first place in Third Level competition with Weltino's Magic, a six-year-old Westfalen gelding owned by Jen and Bruce Hlavacek. Shannon and Weltino's Magic also collected ribbons in two FEI-level young horse classes.

Steffen collected blue ribbons in both Prix St. Georges competition and in the Intermediaire Freestyle with Montango, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by James and Mary Keenan. He also earned a blue with Ravel by winning the Grand Prix Sweepstakes. Ravel is a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Akiko Yamazaki. In addition to his first-place wins, Steffen also had second and third-place finishes in international-level competition with Lombardi 11 and Prince. Steffen's victories at the Del Mar National put him in a good position for making the 2008 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team.

The Peters are strong proponents of the Mushroom Matrix with Shannon reporting that the Matrix has not only improved the overall health of horses in their barn, but it has also helped address anxiety issues. She has really noticed the change in her partner, Weltino's Magic. "The Hlavacek's purchased him in September and he went to his first show in November and let me tell you, he was not so focused! I started him on the Matrix in December, and every show he has gone to since, he has been far more focused, with good energy and rideability!" Weltino's Magic is a rising star and with the help of the Matrix, Shannon believes he has a bright future ahead of him.

Shannon and Steffen are just two of many top-level riders and trainers who have discovered the benefits of Matrix nutritional supplements. These benefits include promoting healthy joints, reducing inflammation, boosting the immune system, increasing stamina and reducing stress and anxiety.
[May 5, 2008] Mushroom Matrix Equine Team Member Carl Nafzger Collecting Many Honors in 2008 Including Induction into Racing Hall of Fame

Mushroom Matrix Equine Team Member Carl Nafzger Collecting Many Honors in 2008 Including Induction into Racing Hall of Fame

Mushroom Matrix Equine Team member and leading American horse trainer Carl Nafzger will be inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame this summer. And the honor is just one of many recently bestowed on Nafzger.

A Texas native who trained Kentucky Derby winners Street Sense and Unbridled, Nafzger has received several honors in the past few months - induction into the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Professional Bull Riders' Ring of Honor and he received his second Big Sport of Turfdom award.

Although widely known for his success as a racehorse trainer, Nafzger was first one of America's leading bull riders. He qualified for the National Finals Rodeo three times - from 1963 to 1965 - and in 1963 he was the number three-rated bull rider in America. He got into the Thoroughbred racing industry in 1970 when he and his wife, Wanda, joined with family members in pooling their money to buy their first Thoroughbreds at Keeneland's fall sale. The rest is racing history.

Over the next four decades, Nafzger became one of America's most successful racehorse trainers. He shared his philosophy and approach in his book, Traits of a Winner: The Formula for Developing Thoroughbred Racehorses in which he stated that success comes from the ability to understand each individual horse. This has clearly been the key to Nafzger's own success. He not only has a sincere love for horses, but also a unique ability to connect with them.

The Mushroom Matrix is honored to have Carl Nafzger as part of its Matrix Equine Team and congratulates him on earning these many well-deserved honors these past few months. Throughout his career as a trainer, Nafzger has promoted a natural, holistic approach to equine nutritional health and the Matrix fits his philosophy. Nafzger started feeding the Matrix to horses in his barn more than a year ago, including to Street Sense prior to his Kentucky Derby win. He now has more than three dozen horses in his barn on the Matrix and has said it has contributed to improving the overall health of his horses.

"The Mushroom Matrix isn't about looking for a quick fix. It's about overall health," Nafzger said. What I look for in a nutritional product is that it helps the horse stay healthier because a healthier horse performs better and rebounds faster. This product doesn't make them run faster, but a healthy horse runs more consistent and recovers quicker because the horse's system is not as stressed.

[May 5, 2008] Mushrooms, Already Known for Their Health Benefits, May Also Be a Cure for Environmental Ailments

Mushrooms, Already Known for Their Health Benefits, May Also Be a Cure for Environmental Ailments

The nutritional and health benefits of mushrooms are perhaps now widely known, but mushrooms as a cure for environmental ailments? One California town believes so.

Fort Bragg, California, located about 130 miles north of San Francisco, has a toxic site full of dioxin on property that was once the location of a Georgia-Pacific lumber mill. Mushrooms have already shown success in cleaning up toxic sites, such as oil spills, but cleaning up dioxin is something new. According to news reports on the town, some residents have decided that if mushrooms are good at cleaning up other toxic substances, why not dioxin?

Fort Bragg is located in California's Mendocino County and while the idea may seem a bit odd in some counties, not so in Mendocino County - the first county in the nation to legalize medical marijuana and to ban genetically-modified crops and animals. The push to clean up the toxic site results from the fact that failure to do so could cost the town a $4.2 million grant from the California Coastal Conservancy for a coastal trail.

According to news reports, the town had two main options. One was to haul away the soil to a landfill about 200 miles away, but this would require about 1,000 truckloads. The other option was to bury it in a large, plastic-lined landfill. Not liking either option, residents sought advice from Paul E. Stamets, author of Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World.

His advice for residents was this - put mushroom plots on the contaminated soil, cover it with straw and leave it be. Stamets' theory is that the mushroom spawn release a fine, threadlike web called mycelium that secretes enzymes "like little Pac-Mans that break down molecular bonds," he said. The toxins then fall apart and disappear.

How much of the dioxin the mushrooms can actually remove and how long it will take are not yet known, but it looks as if Fort Bragg residents are willing to be a test site for this potential use of mushrooms. Test mushroom plots are planned for parts of the toxic site later this year. Mushrooms may yet turn out to be not only the world's super food, but also the environment's super cleaner.

[April 22, 2008] Latest Research on Cancer-Fighting Potential of Mushrooms Catches the Attention of U.K. Media

                April 22, 2008

Latest Research on Cancer-Fighting Potential of Mushrooms Catches the Attention of U.K. Media

Media sources throughout the United Kingdom have been busy this week reporting on the latest research to examine the cancer-fighting potential of medicinal mushrooms. The research found evidence that extracts from the mushroom species phellinus linteus can help stop the formation of tumor cells by cutting off their blood supply.

The research was performed by an American team at the Methodist Research Institute in Indianapolis led by Dr. Daniel Sliva. The results were published in the British Journal of Cancer and this week, newspapers throughout the United Kingdom have been reporting on the results.

Medicinal mushrooms have long been used in Oriental medicine in the prevention and cure of numerous diseases, including cancer. The American research team experimented with the use of mushrooms on human breast-cancer cells in an effort to understand how mushrooms play this role in battling cancer. The research team found evidence that the mushroom works by stopping an enzyme called AKT from working.

AKT is known to control the signals that lead to cell growth and to the development of new blood vessels to feed tumors. Cancer tumors need an ample blood supply to survive. By blocking the activity of AKT, the mushrooms help cut off cancer tumors from their needed blood supply.

In The Scotsman, Dr. Sliva was quoted as saying that researchers "saw a number of positive results from our investigation on aggressive human breast-cancer cells, including a lower rate of uncontrolled growth of new cancer cells, suppression of their aggressive behavior and the formation of fewer blood vessels that feed cancer cells essential nutrients."

Dr. Sliva also told the British Journal of Cancer that previous research indicated that the same mushroom extracts also helped to kill a greater number of prostate cancer cells when used with chemotherapy drugs.

Medicinal mushrooms have long been used by Asian health practitioners in the prevention and cure of illness and disease. In the past few decades, this ancient medical wisdom has spread to the Western world with the result that modern medical researchers have begun to examine these health claims of medicinal mushrooms. And much of that research indicates that ancient healers were on to something - mushrooms do appear to aid in promoting good health. This study by researchers at the Methodist Research Institute is part of a new effort to understand why mushrooms are so effective in promoting good health.

It is this belief in the health benefits of mushrooms that led to the development of the Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements. The Matrix provides an easy way for humans, horses and small animals to get a daily dose of mushroom health. Matrix products are 100 percent certified organic and the proprietary blends used to create Matrix products contain up to ten of the most nutritious varieties of medicinal mushrooms. Mushroom Matrix Equine Team Members Jane Hannigan and Maksymilian are Top-Placed American Pair at Dressage World Championships

Mushroom Matrix congratulates team members Jane Hannigan and Maksymilian. After several days of intense competition among the best dressage riders and horses in the world, Jane and "Mak" emerged from the Dressage World Cup as the top-placed American team and ranked 12th in the world - a fantastic finish for their first trip to the annual dressage world championships.

"We're extremely happy for Jane and Mak and are proud to have them as members of our Mushroom Matrix Equine Team," said Matrix Vice President Keith Manfred. "This pair has worked extremely hard to get where they are and deserve this success."

International dressage judge Stephen Clarke, who judged the World Cup competition held March 27-30 in the Netherlands, was reported to have said that "Jane has one of the best horses here. It's one of the most elastic and talented horses I've seen in a long time." He was speaking, of course, of Jane's World Cup partner Maksymilian, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Jane.

Just a year ago, however, Mak was still a challenge in the show ring. The handsome black gelding has not been an easy ride for much of his competitive career. Mak has always been full of talent, but also anxiety. For years, he had a tendency to be spooky and unfocused in the show ring, which made it difficult for him to earn the blue ribbon despite his talent.

After learning about the Matrix in the winter of 2007, Jane started Mak on the Equine Calm Performance (ECP), a form of the Matrix that helps reduce stress and anxiety in horses, but without reducing their energy level. The result was a calmer, more focused Mak. And with the "new" Mak, Jane and her partner had a wonderful 2007 show season that was topped off by winning the Region 8 Dressage Grand Prix Championship. This Matrix team continued their climb up the dressage ranks throughout this past winter earning the right to represent the U.S. in the 2008 Dressage World Cup. And now, they're ranked among the top dozen dressage pairs in the world.

Mak is one of many high-level competition horses using the Matrix. A growing number of riders and trainers around the world are discovering its many benefits, which includes the promotion of healthy joints, immune system support and increased stamina. And because the Matrix is an all natural, pure-food product, it provides these benefits with no risk to competition horses that are tested for illegal substances.

Matrix nutritional supplements are produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California. They are 100 percent certified organic nutritional supplements made from up to 10 of nature's most potent medicinal mushroom varieties. The Matrix is available in formulas for horses, humans and small animals. More information on Matrix nutritional supplements can be found at www.mushroommatrix.com.

[March 7, 2008] Matrix Horse Maksymilian Will Represent America at World Dressage Championships

Matrix Horse Maksymilian Will Represent America at World Dressage Championships

Jane Hannigan and Maksymilian are headed to the dressage world championships after qualifying to represent the U.S. at the recent Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI-W/Y. "Mak" has been a Matrix-eating horse for more than a year and Hannigan credits the Matrix with helping to get her horse to the world championships.

"The Matrix has definitely made a difference in Mak. It's helped him become more calm and more focused, but without reducing his energy level," Hannigan said.

Hannigan and Mak will travel to the Netherlands to compete in the Dressage World Cup - official name of the sport's annual world championships - scheduled to be held March 27-30. They'll compete against the world's best dressage riders and horses for a chance to be crowned 2008 world dressage champion.

Hannigan started feeding the Matrix to Mak last winter after meeting members of the Mushroom Matrix team during the DressageDaily.com Inspection Reception at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby in Florida. It was at this year's Derby that Hannigan and Mak earned the competitive score they needed to send them to the world championships. On hand to congratulate them was Matrix Vice President Keith Manfred.

"We're excited for Jane and Mak and wish them the best of luck at the Dressage World Cup. Mak is a great example of how the Matrix can help competition horses succeed. And Jane is a great example of what good riding and good training can achieve," Manfred said.

Hannigan admits that Mak has been a handful through much of his competitive career. A handsome, black Dutch Warmblood gelding, Mak has always been full of talent, but also anxiety. For years, he had a tendency to be spooky and unfocused in the show ring, which made it difficult for him to earn the blue ribbon despite his talent.

After learning about the Matrix, Hannigan started Mak on the Equine Calm Performance (ECP) last year. ECP helps reduce stress and anxiety in horses, but without reducing their energy level. The result is a calmer, more focused horse and for Mak, it really worked. In his first year on the Matrix, Mak become more and more focused on his work and he and Hannigan topped off their 2007 show season by winning the Region 8 Dressage Grand Prix Championship. The pair has continued to climb up the ranks throughout the Florida winter show season.

"He's still on the Matrix. Did he spook in the ring at the Derby? Not at all. Chairs were blowing over, tents blowing and he was right on the money. He is focused and trained and strong. And everybody said he looks really fresh and really strong, but really focused. Doesn't his coat look amazing? He's got black dapples," Hannigan said.

Mak is just one of many high-level competition horses using the Matrix. A growing number of riders and trainers around the world are discovering its many benefits, which includes the promotion of healthy joints, immune system support and increased stamina. And because the Matrix is an all natural, pure-food product, it provides these benefits with no risk to competition horses that are tested for illegal substances.

Purchase the Matrix Equine Calm Performance this Month and Help Jane and Mak Travel to the Dressage World Cup

As part of its campaign to support the American team of Jane Hannigan and Maksymilian at this year's Dressage World Cup, the Matrix will donate a portion of sales of Equine Calm Performance (ECP) to Team Hannigan.

For every purchase of ECP made over the internet this month, $7.00 will go toward helping Jane and Mak cover the costs of traveling to the Dressage World Cup, being held in the Netherlands from March 27-30. Traveling abroad to compete in a world championship costs thousands of dollars and the Matrix wants to ensure that Jane and Mak can get there. You can help. Purchase your ECP this month and contribute to the Team Hannigan fund!

[Feb. 7, 2008] Beijing Air Pollution Has Some Athletes Concerned about 2008 Olympic Games

                February 07, 2008

Beijing Air Pollution Has Some Athletes Concerned about 2008 Olympic Games

With the 2008 Olympic Games just months away, reports are surfacing that some athletes are raising questions regarding the potential impact of Beijing's air pollution on their performance.

Beijing is one of the world's most polluted cities and as early as last summer, according to an Associated Press report, the president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, admitted that some Olympic events might be postponed during days of extreme air pollution, particularly endurance events such as cycling.

More recently, the International Herald Tribune reported that athletes themselves have been asking Olympic officials if they should train in areas of poor air quality to prepare themselves for Beijing. According to that report (http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/01/24/sports/smog.php), medical experts associated with the Olympic teams of several nations are working on ways to help their athletes better cope with the impacts of air pollution. Their concerns regarding Beijing's air are based on previous experience. Athletes that have competed in Beijing in recent years have complained that the air quality severely impacted their breathing and hence, their athletic performance.

Despite the efforts of the Chinese government to reduce Beijing's air pollution, efforts that have included relocating factories out of the city, continued growth in the city and the increased use of cars by residents is only making the situation worse, not better. With the Olympic Games scheduled for August 8-24, athletes will be arriving in Beijing to deal with a mix of summer heat and air pollution.

Air pollution is of such concern that according to the International Herald Tribune report, some medical scientists with the U.S. Olympic team have suggested American athletes wear masks during all times that they are in Beijing and not competing. Plans are already underway to provide masks to all U.S. athletes.

In reality, Beijing is only one of many large cities throughout the world where residents deal daily with severe air pollution. Concerns about the impacts of air pollution on athletes also came up prior to both the Athens Olympics and the Los Angeles Olympics. In the modern world, few people, and animals, can escape completely, the impacts of air pollution on their bodies.

Short of humanity as a whole eliminating air pollution, the best thing each individual can do is maintain a healthy immune system and healthy lung function to help protect the body from the toxins in air pollution. In both humans and animals, there are cells that line the bronchial tracts leading into lung tissue. These cells contain hairs on their surfaces that function to remove particulate matter that enters when we breathe. This keeps pollutants from entering our respiratory system.

However, experimental studies have shown that these hair cells can be paralyzed after exposure to chemical pollutants, such as those found in air pollution. When these hair cells are paralyzed and no longer functioning, the result is an accumulation of toxic particulate matter within lung tissue. Proper lung function is then compromised resulting in respiratory symptoms and distress. A vicious cascade reaction takes place and the compromised lung cells produce free radicals called reactive oxygen species (ROS) that lead to lung cell death. These free radicals, however, can be neutralized by the presence of antioxidants with the result that the lung cells are then protected.

Proper nutrition is one way to give the body the protective antioxidants it needs. And when it comes to foods high in antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients, few foods can compare to mushrooms. Mushrooms, particularly medicinal mushroom varieties. contain evolutionary, evolved antioxidants and bioactive nutrients that have the ability to neutralize the free radicals that diminish our health.

It was the desire to provide humans and animals with a simple way to gain the health benefits of mushrooms that led to the development of Mushroom Matrix nutritional supplements. Matrix supplements are whole foods that help provide the nutrition that can protect lung cells from the impacts of the air pollution found in many urban areas. Nutritional support as a method for protecting the respiratory system is most effective when used on a daily basis. This means that the body should have a ready supply of key antioxidants within it at all times to deal with the daily impacts of air pollution.

Used on a regular basis, Matrix supplements can help the body build up its store of antioxidants. The Mushroom Matrix products are produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California. They are 100 percent certified organic nutritional supplements and are available in formulas for humans, horses and small animals. The Matrix proprietary blends contain up to ten of nature's most powerful medicinal mushroom species and are engineered to address the physiological requirements of both humans and animals in a uniquely efficient and effective manner.
[Jan. 31, 2008] Healthy Pet - Daily Life Essentials

                January 31, 2008

Healthy Pet - Daily Life Essentials

Mushroom Matrix announces its new line of nutritional supplements for dogs and cats. Healthy Pet has all the nutritional benefits found in Matrix products for horses and humans, but is designed with the family pet in mind.

Healthy Pet is a special blend of up to 10 medicinal mushroom varieties, providing dogs and cats with superior health support. High in antioxidants, beta-glucans and polysaccharides, mushrooms are one of nature's most perfect foods for all animals. Not only are they loaded with healthy nutrients, but those nutrients are easily absorbed and used by mammals, which includes not only humans but also horses, dogs and cats. Research into the benefits of medicinal mushrooms indicates that they help promote healthy joints, reduce inflammation, boost the immune system, increase stamina and help reduce stress and anxiety.

Healthy Pet is the first in a new line of small animal nutritional supplements being designed by the Mushroom Matrix. Future small animal supplements will include a special puppy Matrix blend to provide puppies with the nutritional support needed to grow strong and healthy, an adult dog blend to promote overall immune system support and a senior blend to provide overall health support with the added benefit of joint protection. Dog and cat treats loaded with the special healthy goodness of the Matrix are also in development.

Dr. Marvin S. Hausman, M.D., one of the leading developers in the creation of the Mushroom Matrix, said the new Healthy Pet will do for dogs and cats what the human and equine versions of the Matrix have done for people and horses.

"As with horses and people, this version of the Matrix will provide small animals with nutritional support to strengthen the immune system, allow cells and organs to function better and essentially keep the body in tune," he said. "Among the benefits one should see are that dogs and cats are more relaxed, have increased stamina with free and easy joint movement, and a healthier looking coat with a smoother, better-feeling skin tone."

Dr. Hausman has been feeding the Matrix to his own 13-year-old dog with the result that "he's like a young dog again. It's a sort of rejuvenation."

Research has shown that oxidative damage to cells is one of the leading causes of so many health disorders, including disease, illness and joint dysfunction. It's widely known that antioxidants can help protect cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. This is why so many nutritional supplements for humans and animals promote their antioxidant properties. Medicinal mushrooms, however, such as those used in Matrix nutritional supplements, have extremely high concentrations of one of the most potent antioxidants in the world - L-Ergothioneine (ERGO).

ERGO is abundant in many plants, but humans and other animals cannot manufacture ERGO. The only way to get this beneficial antioxidant is by eating various plants that take up ERGO from the soil. Mushrooms are perhaps most efficient in drawing this valuable antioxidant from the soil. ERGO is then passed along to humans and animals when they ingest mushrooms. In addition to ERGO, mushrooms are also high in other antioxidant compounds, such as selenomethionine, making mushrooms the absolute best whole organic source for antioxidants.

Mushrooms are completely natural and organic with a unique combination of enzymes and antioxidant that work together in such a way that the antioxidants received by consuming mushrooms are easily and quickly absorbed by the body and its tissues, thus providing humans, horses, dogs and cats with the full benefits of antioxidants.

The desire to provide both people and animals with easy access to the health benefits of mushrooms is what led to the creation of the Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements. Matrix products are 100 percent certified organic and the medicinal mushroom varieties used to produce Matrix products are grown in the U.S. by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, producer of Matrix nutritional supplements. With Matrix supplements, it's easy for everyone in the family - including the dog and cat - to get their daily dose of this superior nutritional supplement.

[Jan. 15, 2008] Running Low on Energy? Try Mushrooms Rather Than Caffeine

                January 15, 2008

Running Low on Energy? Try Mushrooms Rather Than Caffeine

For many people, caffeine is the stimulant of choice when energy levels are low, but a better answer may be mushrooms. Research indicates that some medicinal mushroom varieties, particularly Cordyceps, can help the body use oxygen more efficiently, which translates into increased energy and endurance.

Stimulants such as caffeine are a short-term fix that, for many, provides a quick pick-me-up. Mushrooms, on the other hand, are a healthy, nutritious food that provides the body with multiple, long-term benefits. Cordyceps have long been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat such conditions as lung disease and fatigue and modern medical research indicates that the Chinese knew what they were doing.

In its natural environment, the Cordycep mushroom grows at high elevations in China and Tibet and some researchers believe that its ability to thrive at high altitudes explains why it can help increase oxygen use in the blood. Whatever, the reason, one thing seems relatively clear from recent research and that is that Cordyceps have the capacity to increase energy levels and reduce fatigue.

Results of research studies on the benefits of Cordyceps have been published in a number of leading journals, including Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and American Entomologist. It was a 1994 article in American Entomologist that first led researchers to take a closer look at Cordyceps. That article focused on the tremendous success of the Chinese women's track team, particularly at the Chinese National Games in Beijing where world records were broken by Chinese athletes in the 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000-meter events. Although the Chinese attributed their success to their training, they also admitted to use of a tonic made from Cordyceps. That aroused the curiosity of modern medical researchers who wished to learn more about this ancient medicinal mushroom and its traditional use in promoting lung health.

That curiosity led to several studies over the past decade that have sought to unlock the mystery of Cordyceps. Two studies on human use of Cordyceps were published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and American Entomologist, one in 1999 and another in 2001. Both involved an examination of the impact of Cordyceps on humans engaged in exercise and the results indicate that ingesting Cordyceps can result in an increase in the body's oxygen capacity and a more efficient use of oxygen, which, thus, results in increased energy and reduced fatigue.

In recent years, a number of other studies have been performed involving the use of Cordyceps by athletes, particularly athletes involved in endurance sports. And the results of several of those studies back the long-held belief that eating Cordyceps can increase energy levels in both humans and animals and help both recover much more quickly after exercise.

Cordyceps is just one of several medicinal mushroom varieties used in the Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements. High in antioxidants, beta-glucans and polysaccharides, the medicinal mushrooms found in Matrix supplements are loaded with healthy nutrients. And when it comes to increased energy and endurance, Matrix users are supplying their own evidence of the effectiveness of Matrix supplements. The Matrix is already widely used among one group of high-level athletes - racehorses. Matrix-eating racehorses can be found around the world and a good number of them are making frequent trips to the winner's circle, including Street Sense, winner of the 2007 Kentucky Derby.

So, skip the coffee and opt instead for the long-term benefits of the Mushroom Matrix. The Matrix line of nutritional products, produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, are 100 percent certified organic and contain up to ten of the most nutritious medicinal mushroom varieties. Mushroom Matrix and Essential Pharmacy Compounding Join Forces to Produce New EPC Stress Reducer and Immune Enhancer <br />
<br />

The Mushroom Matrix has joined forces with Essential Pharmacy Compounding, a division of Kohlls Pharmacy and Homecare in Omaha, Nebraska, to create EPC Stress Reducer and Immune Enhancer. This new product is the "must have" travel companion for your horse.<br />
<br />

Veterinarians and horse owners have long known that stress can weaken a horse's immune system, thus opening the door for any number of ailments, including colic and viral infections. For many horses, travel, whether by truck and trailer or by air, is extremely stressful and it's not uncommon for horses to become ill after traveling. EPC Stress Reducer is specifically designed to bolster a horse's immune system helping to protect it against the effects of stress. When fed to horses before, during and after travel, EPC Stress Reducer can help build your horse's immune system before the stress of travel takes its toll.<br />
<br />

EPC Stress Reducer is produced using the same potent medicinal mushroom ingredients found in all Matrix nutritional supplements. Matrix supplements are special blends of medicinal mushroom varieties that have been used for centuries to prevent and treat illness and disease. High in antioxidants, beta-glucans and polysaccharides, mushrooms are loaded with healthy nutrients. And, a growing body of research is providing evidence that medicinal mushrooms really can play an important role in addressing a number of health issues, including bolstering the immune system.<br />
<br />

The medicinal mushrooms found in the new EPC Stress Reducer are grown organically in the U.S. by San Marcos, California-based Golden Gourmet Mushrooms. Matrix supplements are all natural, chemical and drug-free and provide multiple benefits not only for horses, but also for humans and small animals, such as dogs and cats.<br />
<br />

EPC Stress Reducer and Immune Enhancer is available through your veterinarian. To learn more about the new EPC Stress Reducer and Immune Enhancer contact Kohlls Pharmacy at 402-408-0016 or visit www.kohlls.com.

On the Road to the Hong Kong Olympics: The Mushroom Matrix Paves the Way

In less than a year, horses will be arriving in Hong Kong from around the world as the equestrian events for the 2008 Summer Olympics get under way. But already on the scene in Hong Kong is the Mushroom Matrix. Although the 2008 Olympics are scheduled to be held in Beijing, the equestrian competitions will be held in Hong Kong, where there are no shortage of equestrian sports fans.

Nearly two dozen racehorses in Hong Kong are now on the Mushroom Matrix and already those Matrix-eating horses are moving into the winner's circle. Earlier this fall, the Matrix's own Dr. Marvin Hausman, M.D., made his way to Hong Kong to introduce the Mushroom Matrix to Hong Kong's highly-popular horse racing industry. Hong Kong is considered by many in the international horse racing community to have some of the most stringent regulations regarding the use of medications and nutritional supplements for racehorses. Hence, bringing the Matrix to Hong Kong's equestrian community was no easy task.

The Matrix was quickly put to the test and it passed with flying colors, meaning it has been cleared for use as a nutritional supplement in sport horses. That's great news not only for Hong Kong's horse racing industry, but also for equestrians throughout the world.

One of the greatest concerns for competitive riders and trainers is that medications or nutritional supplements they use will test positive for banned substances. Passing Hong Kong's testing eases the minds of those who feed the Matrix to horses involved in equestrian sports. An 'all clear' from Hong Kong' racing industry is one more sign that the Matrix is perfectly safe for horses involved in equestrian sports.

It won't be long before use of the Matrix spreads beyond Hong Kong, considering that Matrix-eating horses in Hong Kong are showing success on the race track. Hong Kong-based racehorse owner Dave Garcia reports good results with the Matrix, including a recent win with Chater Silk, trained by David Ferraris. "He won his last race by three lengths," Garcia said.

Mushroom Matrix products are gaining popularity among the world's horse racing community because of their multiple health benefits. Carl Nafzger, trainer of this year's Kentucky Derby winner, Street Sense, feeds the Matrix to a number of horses in his barn, including Street Sense. Research indicates that the antioxidants and enzymes in the Mushroom Matrix promote healthy joints, help reduce inflammation, can boost the immune system, increase stamina, reduce stress and anxiety and increase the recovery time after exercise - all benefits that are important to racehorse trainers and owners.

The Mushroom Matrix line of products are produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California. These products are 100 percent certified organic nutritional supplements. The Matrix proprietary blends contain up to ten of nature's most powerful mushroom species and are engineered to address the physiological requirements of both humans and animals in a uniquely efficient and effective manner.
[Jan. 3, 2008] Mushrooms Becoming Recognized as One of Nature's Super Foods

                January 03, 2008

Mushrooms Becoming Recognized as One of Nature's Super Foods

A growing number of doctors, medical researchers and nutritionists are pushing the message that when it comes to fighting illness and disease, food plays a major role. And that's because medical research continues to back the old adage that "you are what you eat."

The result is that researchers and health practitioners are identifying what they call "super foods" - foods shown to have tremendous health benefits, including the ability to help prevent and treat many diseases. Being added to many of these lists of super foods are several varieties of medicinal mushrooms, including varieties used in the Mushroom Matrix line of products.

The idea that there are super foods that can help battle illness and disease gained public attention several years ago thanks to a book published by California physician Dr. Steven Pratt, titled SuperFoods RX: Fourteen Foods That Will Change Your Life. Pratt himself admits that super foods alone won't keep one healthy. Regular exercise, a balanced diet and a generally healthy lifestyle are all important, but Pratt argues that research clearly shows that some foods are better than others. Those "better" foods, dubbed "super foods," are ones that could do us all a world of good if we added them to our diet on a regular basis.

Most nutrition experts have long focused on what we shouldn't eat or have lumped the "good" foods into broad categories, simply advising people to "eat their vegetables." However, those who promote the idea of super foods argue that not all vegetables - or all of any food category - are alike. Some foods provide far greater health benefits than others.

The super foods theory has led to increased studies on the health benefits of specific foods, with mushrooms being one food that has received much scrutiny lately. And based on this research, an increasing number of health practitioners and researchers are adding varieties of mushrooms - such as Maitake, Shitake, Reishi and Cordyceps - to their super foods list. As with other super foods on the list, the wonderful thing about mushrooms is that they are pure, simple food and thus, not only healthy, but perfectly safe.

High in antioxidants, beta-glucans and polysaccharides, mushrooms are one of nature's most perfect foods. Not only are they loaded with healthy nutrients, but those nutrients are easily absorbed and used by mammals, which includes humans and most animals - horses and the family dog and cat among them.

With Matrix supplements, it's easy to get a daily dose of one of the most important super foods.

[Dec. 7, 2007] Synthetic versus Natural

                Synthetic versus Natural

The multi-billion dollar vitamin and nutritional supplement industry is coming under growing scrutiny as savvy consumers become increasingly aware that many of these supplements are synthetically produced, non-organic and with questionable benefit. That's great news for producers of natural, whole-food nutritional supplements such as the Mushroom Matrix.

The Mushroom Matrix line of supplements are whole-food products made from organically-grown medicinal mushroom varieties that contain high levels of antioxidants, nucleic and amino acids, vitamins, glycoprotein, beta-glucans and other bioactive/bioavailable substances. Most nutritional experts are quick to point out that the purpose of nutritional supplements is to provide the body with the nutrients it needs - and would have if everyone ate a proper and balanced diet. But since most of us no longer eat properly, we've come to depend on vitamin and other nutritional supplements to fill in the gaps. The problem, however, is that these supplements on which we rely often contain synthetic or extracted chemicals and nutrients whose absorption, cell penetration and physiologic effects are questionable.

One organization leading the charge against these "unnatural" nutritional supplements is the Organic Consumers Association (OCA), which has launched a campaign aimed at forcing producers and distributors of nutritional supplements to disclose their use of synthetic and genetically-engineered ingredients. OCA has a volume of information on its website (www.organicconsumers.org) designed to educate consumers about the true lack of nutritional benefits from the vitamin and nutritional supplements that so many people take.

In one recent article posted on the OCA website, Jack Siepert, a nutritional consultant from Community Pharmacy, described the situation as this:
"There are three basic kinds of multivitamins: whole-food vitamins cultured through probiotics or nutritional yeasts or taken from actual food, synthetic vitamins mixed with some whole-foods and purely synthetic vitamins. Additionally, because the support they provide is to "fill in the gap" of a poor diet, it is best to go with the type as close to real food as possible - whole-food vitamins."

In other words, when it comes to proper nutrition for the body, there is no substitute for the complex matrix found in real food. And that's what makes the Mushroom Matrix supplements so good. They are real food, but not just any food. Mushrooms have been used for centuries to provide very specialized, unique sugars that communicate at a cellular level to help the body address illness and diseases. Mushrooms provide vital nutrients that mammals need, but can't get on their own.

"Mushrooms take up these potent nutrients and when ingested by humans or other mammals, the mushrooms release these nutrients into their systems. Research has shown that mammals have a specially designed chemical used to transport an essential nutrient only found in mushrooms and needed by mammals. This nutrient is called L-ergothioneine, which helps provide cells with needed anti-oxidant protection and can potentially boost the immune system," said Dr. Marvin Hausman, a leading medical research who is one of the key people behind the development of the Mushroom Matrix.

What makes the Matrix so unique as a nutritional supplement is that it's a complete, whole food that contains all those potent nutrients only found in mushrooms? The Matrix consists of whole, organic mushrooms that have been dried and ground into powder form. As a nutritional food supplement, it provides humans and other mammals with literally thousands of natural enzymes, proteins and antioxidants.

"Nutrition isn't just giving you things like vitamin E. It's giving you food, and mushrooms are a very complex food. You can't just take antioxidants like vitamins C and E and expect a direct result. The cellular processes of mammals are complex and need a complex food to match. Mushrooms contain approximately 4,000 specific chemicals that match the system requirements of many mammals, such as humans, horses, dogs and cats. The Matrix products provide benefits for all of them," Dr. Hausman said.

[Dec. 7, 2007] When it Comes to Medicinal Mushrooms, Consider the Source

When it Comes to Medicinal Mushrooms, Consider the Source

Hundreds of veterinarians and equestrian enthusiasts got the chance to learn more about the Mushroom Matrix when the Matrix team traveled to Florida for the U.S. Dressage Federation and American Association of Equine Practitioners conventions. And what they learned is that when it comes to comparing nutritional products that make use of medicinal mushrooms, source matters as much as variety.

The source of mushrooms used in nutritional supplements is as important as which medicinal mushroom varieties are used. Mushrooms are beneficial because of their unique ability to process and draw vital nutrients from the soil and pass those nutrients along to mammals - humans included - when ingested. In fact, some important nutrients can only be passed along to humans by mushrooms.

The downside of this unique feature of the mushroom is that when drawing substances from the soil, mushrooms don't always distinguish between what's good and what's bad. This means mushrooms grown in polluted soil can pass along pollutants to those who eat them. So the first step in comparing mushroom-based nutritional supplements is to know the source of the mushrooms used and especially whether that source is U.S.-based or a foreign producer. The regulations and standards for the production of agricultural products in some countries are not nearly as strong as those in the U.S.

Along with knowing the source of mushrooms, it's wise to learn about the growing process used because where mushroom production is concerned, cleaner is better. And it's here in the growing process where the Mushroom Matrix outdoes competitors. The medicinal mushroom varieties used in the production of the Matrix line of nutritional supplements are organically-grown in the U.S. through a unique, highly hygienic process that was originally developed in Japan.

The Mushroom Matrix supplements are produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, which uses a Solid State Fermentation (SSF) process to grow the mushrooms used in Matrix products. This process involves growing the medicinal mushroom species on organic whole oats in a sterile environment. This clean, healthy growing environment results in a pollutant-free mushroom full of nothing but pure, healthy goodness. And for Mushroom Matrix consumers that means a superior mushroom-based nutritional supplement.

The Mushroom Matrix line of products are 100 percent certified organic nutritional supplements. The Matrix proprietary blends contain up to ten of nature's most powerful mushroom species and are engineered to address the physiological requirements of both humans and animals in a uniquely efficient and effective manner.
[Nov.19, 2007] Mushroom Matrix is a Hit at SupplySide West

The Mushroom Matrix was the center of much attention at this year's SupplySide West convention, held in Las Vegas November 6-8. On hand at the event was the Matrix's own Marvin Hausman, MD, otherwise known as Dr. Mushroom. Recent research presented at SupplySide West by Dr. Hausman offers proof that the Mushroom Matrix does increase the level of antioxidant/anti-inflammatory activity in the blood of both humans and horses.<br>
<br>
Attendees at SupplySide West were interested not only in the study results, but also in the method of performing the studies. The methodology was developed by Oxis International, a medical research company of which Dr. Hausman is president. Oxis developed a way of testing antioxidative/anti-inflammatory activity in the blood of mammals, which is important because antioxidants help to counter the damage done to cells from oxidative stress.<br>
<br>
At SupplySide West, Dr. Hausman presented results from two studies. One study involved human use of the Mushroom Matrix and the other study involved feeding the Mushroom Matrix to horses. The blood of both the humans and the horses was tested before and after supplementation with the Mushroom Matrix. The study results showed that the Mushroom Matrix did increase the level of antioxidative/anti-inflammatory activity in the blood, thus, increasing the body's ability to fight off oxidative stress. Several other studies are now either under way or in the planning stages to exam further the health benefits of the Mushroom Matrix.<br>
<br>
The Mushroom Matrix, a special blend of organically-certified, medicinal mushrooms, is produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, a pioneer in specialty mushroom cultivation in the U.S. <br>

[Nov.19, 2007] POTENTIAL ROLE OF MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS IN THE TREATMENT OF CANCER

Cancer is one of the most fearful diseases for most people. It's seen by many as this great mystical disease that springs from nowhere into a painful, slow, debilitating disease and death of the victim. Despite decades of research, most people still feel they know so little about this disease. Many wonder how the organs of the body can become so infected with cancer and, more importantly, if there is something they can do to stop or cure this dreadful condition.

In a paper titled Treatment of Cancer with Mushroom Products, Dr. Jean Monro, who is the medical director of Breakspear Hospital in the United Kingdom, attributes the cause of cancer to four possibilities. There are approximately 10 million cancer deaths a year. Of those, Monro notes that about 30 percent are thought to result from pollution, 30 percent from poor diet (inadequate nutrition), 15 percent from viral infection and 25 percent from unknown causes. (1)

Pollutants that can result in cancer are very often chemicals from industry. Other pollution examples include things like car cleaning products that have cancer-causing agents, such as methylene chloride and petroleum hydrocarbons. Common household products also contain extremely bad chemicals, such as peroxides in hair dye products, which induce free radicals. And then there are pollutants from tobacco, such as dioxin, which is produced from the burning process that creates an extreme cancer causing agent. (11)

The role of nutrition and diet in the development and treatment of cancer is complex. Dr. Munro cites research that indicates that high fat, low fiber diets are associated with increased cancer risk. But where diet is concerned, many factors play a role. The types of food, how it's prepared, the interactions of food components and the digestive process all influence the body's chemistry, which makes it difficult to say exactly which foods provide cancer protection.

There is, however, one food source that Dr. Munro is certain provides some cancer protection. Medicinal mushrooms are a food source that research indicates help to prevent and cure viral and bacterial infections, which Dr. Munro believes to be the precursor to cancers. Medicinal mushrooms communicate through cell surface receptors to pathways inside the body's cells. The mushrooms cause the cells, through DNA systems, to produce new proteins that increase immune responses. For example, through this cellular communication system, more proteins are produced, which causes the demise of cancer cells, while specific proteins that cause cancer to spread, are decreased. (2,3,4)

Dr. Monro points to the fact that "papilloma virus infections induce cervical cancer. Hepatitis virus is associated with increased risks of liver cancer and hepatoma and Epstein-Barr virus is associated with increased risk of lymphoma." (4,9, 10)

Cancer is currently treated by three major strategies - surgery, radiation treatment or chemotherapy (specialty drugs targeting cancer cells). Surgery causes inflammatory responses, which induces the spread of cancer cells throughout the body. Radiation kills cancer cells as well as healthy cells, while causing damage to healthy cell DNA, which leads to mutation and further cancer. Chemotherapy causes an immune suppression, which allows agents of infection to flourish and diminishes the ability of the body's immune system to protect against future cancer. (5)

The treatment of cancer is centered on treating the established cancer. According to Dr. Monro, "what is not done well is to manage the four main causes." Prevention begins with managing these main causes of cancer and one way of doing this is to use medicinal mushrooms to stimulate the immune system.

"Very few agents are effective for both treatment and prevention of disease, but our research has shown that certain mushrooms can be used in this way," Dr. Monro said. It has been well documented that tumor growth can be inhibited at the cellular level by the nutrients in mushrooms. These nutrients enhance the immune processes by increasing natural killer cells, such as neutrophils, monocytes and dendritic cells; by activating macrophages activities; by inducing cytokines; by inducing gene expression and by increasing T and B cells. (16)

Japan, Korea and China use mushrooms for cancer treatment as well as adjuncts to chemotherapy. Some registered mushroom cancer products in China are Lentinan, Schizophyllum, Krestin, PSK and PSP. (12,13,15,16) The Mushroom Matrix contains some of these very same species of mushrooms as component parts in nutritional products for humans, horses and small animals. These component parts contain proteoglycans and beta-glucans that are part of an information transmission system. The special orientation of these molecules of the Matrix plug into cell communication receptor sites, just as a key to a lock opens particular doors. The mushrooms cause the body's cells to make specific proteins that then enhance and enable the body's adaptive and innate immune systems to fight bacterial, viral and aberrant cancer cells.

Dr. Monro demonstrates by presenting clinical evidence that cancers, viruses and bacterial infections may be abated by reduced exposure to pollutants and by eating a proper diet. A regular diet should include the use of medicinal mushrooms. The mushrooms clearly boost the immune system, thus lowering viral infections that have been shown to cause cancer. Medicinal mushrooms also work to cause the demise of cancer once it has been established. Mushrooms also work well in conjunction with the three conventional therapies. The natural killer cells induced by the mushrooms work to remove cellular debris caused by radiation, chemotherapy or surgery. The body recovers much faster from the trauma caused by the conventional therapies because the mushrooms decrease inflammation and provide strong anti-oxidant activity. The mushrooms also strengthen the immune system, which is typically suppressed by chemotherapy agents.

As Dr. Monro says, "Medicinal mushrooms play a role in the prevention of cancers induced by diet and poor lifestyle choices. Thus mushrooms may have a significant role in cancer treatment." The Mushroom Matrix is an organically produced whole food. It is safe and affordable. And as we know, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and the Matrix protects health on many levels, each and every day.

[Nov.19, 2007] Recent CNN News Feature Highlights the Health Benefits of Mushrooms

It seems that mushrooms are moving out of the background and into the foreground in the world of nutritional health. A recent CNN news feature places mushrooms among a group of five foods whose nutritional value is often overlooked. Long seen as nothing other than a tasty ingredient useful in cooking but lacking much nutritional value, this CNN news feature notes that mushrooms, it turns out, provide some serious health benefits. But that's not news to the Mushroom Matrix. CNN reports that mushrooms are loaded with the antioxidant L-ergothioneine - so too is the Mushroom Matrix. In fact, the mushroom varieties used in the Mushroom Matrix have some of the highest levels of antioxidants of any mushroom variety.

[Nov.1, 2007] Respiratory Distress and Poor Lung Function in Fire-Ravaged Southern California

In the wake of Southern California's wildfires, human and animal residents within a wide radius of the fire zones now face a new threat - respiratory illness resulting from smoke inhalation. Recent news reports in the region have warned residents to beware of inhaling too much smoke and the more susceptible, namely the very young and the very old, are advised to remain indoors during times when smoke levels rise.

Humans aren't the only ones being advised to beware of smoke dangers. Veterinarians are warning animal owners to keep pets inside and avoid too much exercise when outside. Only in recent days have horse owners been given the okay to begin putting their horses back in training. But even that all-clear sign came with warnings to limit exercise when smoke builds.

Recent research has shown that many of the medicinal mushroom varieties used in the Mushroom Matrix have proven health benefits. The Matrix, a nutritional supplement containing a special blend of organically-certified, medicinal mushrooms produced by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, is extremely high in the antioxidants that help protect cells, including lung cells.

In the article below, leading medical researcher Marvin S. Hausman, MD, the Mushroom Matrix's own Dr. Mushroom, explains the dangers of inhaling the smoke from the recent Southern California fires. And, he explains how the Mushroom Matrix may help counter the negative health impacts from that smoke.

Respiratory Distress and Poor Lung Function in Fire-Ravaged Southern California Marvin S. Hausman, MD

The toxic products produced by fires can result in respiratory distress in all living organism. Combustion of wood products and homes containing corrosive and toxic building materials release chemicals, as well as particulate matter, into the air that disrupts normal lung function. These "toxic responses" within lung tissue have been visible in both people and animals living in the fire-ravaged areas of Southern California.

In both humans and animals, there are cells that line the bronchial tracts leading into lung tissue. These cells contain hairs on their surfaces that function to remove particulate matter that enters when we breathe. This is how our lung passages are kept clear. Normally, environmental pollutants and toxic particulate matter can be moved to the surface and easily disposed of as breathing and respiratory lung movements occur.

However, experimental studies have shown that these hair cells can be paralyzed after exposure to chemical pollutants, such as cigarette smoke.

How can can we get these protective antioxidants? One way is through nutrition. Whole organic food products, such as mushrooms, contain evolutionary, evolved antioxidants and bioactive nutrients. These bioactive nutrients have the ability to neutralize the free radicals that are produced within cells and prevent cells from dying. Nutrition can best protect lung cells from catastrophes such as fires and the resulting smoke, when used ahead of time. This means that the body should have a ready supply of these key antioxidant nutrients within it prior to any catastrophic event.

There is already anecdotal evidence that the Mushroom Matrix can help protect the lungs of people and animals exposed to pollutants in smoke. Testimonials received from people exposed to pollutants in New York after 9/11 and in other countries after toxic chemical exposure have revealed an alleviation of breathing problems after consumption of the Mushroom Matrix. Although the Matrix can begin to provide some relief several days after one starts taking it, a better approach for protecting lung function is to use the Matrix on a regular basis. This would allow the body to build up its stores of antioxidants. A key point in prevention is to be proactive and not reactive after the insulting event occurs.

[Nov.1, 2007] Dr. Mushroom: On the Road to Hong Kong - and Macao and Pennsylvania...

Marvin S. Hausman, MD, a.k.a. Dr. Mushroom, has literally been traveling the globe spreading the word on the tremendous health benefits of the Mushroom Matrix and his travels are leading to some exciting research opportunities. <br><br>
His most recent international trip took him to Hong Kong and Macao. The Mushroom Matrix has already crossed the ocean to Hong Kong and Dr. Hausman reports that testing has begun on the impacts of the Matrix on race horses in Hong Kong. In addition, his Hong Kong trip has set the stage for the development of research studies with the Chinese on mushroom varieties used in the Matrix. The Chinese have an interest in the use of medicinal mushrooms to address avian flu. <br><br>
Dr. Hausman's travels to Macao have opened doors to introducing the benefits of the Matrix for the Thoroughbred racing industry. If tests on race horses in Hong Kong prove as positive as previous tests on American race horses, the Matrix is set to spread throughout the Hong Kong and Macao horse racing industries. Initial tests in the U.S. indicate that the Matrix not only promotes good overall health and stamina - vital for race horses - but it also helps them recover faster after exercise and is showing promise in addressing the problem of lung bleeding often seen in race horses. <br><br>
Next stop for Dr. Hausman? Pennsylvania, where he'll be meeting up with researchers at the Pennsylvania State Univesity to develop plans for future studies on the health benefits of nutritional ingredients found in the Mushroom Matrix. He'll also be making visits to some of Pennsylvania's top Thoroughbred race horse trainers. <br><br>
The Mushroom Matrix is a special blend of organically-certified, medicinal mushrooms known for their health benefits for both humans and animals. Recent research indicates that mushroom varieties used in the Matrix aid in protecting the immune system, help reduce inflammation, build stamina and reduce stress and anxiety - to name just a few of the many health benefits. The Matrix is produced in the U.S. by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California, a pioneer in specialty mushroom cultivation in the U.S.

[Nov.1, 2007] Mushroom Matrix Users Jane Hannigan and Maksymilian Shine Bright at Prestigious Washington International Horse Show

Washington, D.C. - Jane Hannigan and her Mushroom Matrix-eating horse Maksymilian were one of only four horse and rider pairs invited to compete in this year's $25,000 Washington International Horse Show Dressage Invitational. <br><br>
The Washington International Horse Show, held Oct. 9-14, is one of America's premier hunter/jumper competitions. Most of the show features jumping competitions, but every year, the show plays host to one special dressage competition that is by invitation only. The Dressage Invitational was held over two days and consisted of a Grand Prix competition and a Grand Prix Musical Freestyle competition. Hannigan and "Mak" finished second with a great score of 68.604 percent. <br><br>
Hannigan and her 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding have been moving up the dressage ranks throughout the year and Hannigan credits the Mushroom Matrix for playing a role in her growing list of successes. She started Mak on the Matrix in the winter of 2007 and quickly discovered that it helped reduce his anxiety and made him more focused. Hannigan said the Matrix has completely changed him - for the better. <br><br>
"It's like a whole different horse in there. So, I need to learn how to ride my relaxed horse," she said. "I've also noticed with Mak that the recovery rate is faster after exercise and I work him fairly hard. I also started feeding the Matrix to my young horse and he's building more muscle and coming along faster." <br><br>
The Mushroom Matrix is a special blend of mushroom varieties that are grown organically in the U.S. by San Marcos, California-based Golden Gourmet Mushrooms. An all natural, chemical and drug-free product, the Mushroom Matrix is high in antioxidants and enzymes and provides multiple benefits not only for horses, but also for humans and small animals, such as dogs and cats. Among the many benefits of the Mushroom Matrix are that it promotes healthy joints, helps reduce inflammation, boosts the immune system, increases stamina and increases the recovery time after exercise.

[Oct. 23, 2007] A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO HORSES

The Mushroom Matrix (The Matrix)™ has recently undergone extensive testing to gather data on the nutritional benefits associated with this oral supplement. The Matrix™ consists of a blend of 10 bioactive mushrooms that contain over 3,000 naturally produced enzymes and proteins with unique antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.

Research to date has confirmed that The Matrix™ is indeed a novel nutritional supplement for both horses and humans. There are many vitamins and dietary supplements on the market and many whole food products that have made nutritional claims. But, to the best of my knowledge, none has ever actually been tested and shown to increase a body's antioxidant capacity after ingestion.

Studies have been performed to determine if The Matrix does actually increase a body's antioxidant capacity. In one test, 14 Thoroughbred yearlings were fed The Matrix™ for 30 days. Of those 14, ten showed a dramatic increase in the antioxidant/anti-inflammatory capacity within their blood stream. Serum from these horses at the start and finish of the study underwent a test called Acute Oxidative Potential (AOP)™, developed by Oxis International Inc, a specialized antioxidant biomarker company. Results from all 14 horses in the study had a mean increase of 16.45 percent. The mean increase among the 10 horses with a positive response was 25.8 percent.

An earlier, but similar, human study was done using serum and plasma collected from humans taking a version of The Matrix™ fortified with 1 milligram of added L-Ergothioneine (ERGO). ERGO is a very potent antioxidant that can only be produced by mushrooms and not by any mammals. The human study was designed as a proof of principle study to assess the ability of the AOP™ test to measure the antioxidant capacity of blood. Use of the AOP™ in serum proved possible and, indeed, many of the people enrolled in this initial study showed an increase in their antioxidant potential after only two weeks of oral supplementation of The Matrix.

The next series of studies in horses was performed at Minitube USA, a specialized fertility company that produces extenders for use in collection of semen from horses, bulls and boars. Semen collection is subject to many oxidative stress events, such as the use of fluid extenders to store sperm, freezing, storage and thawing, as well as general changes in temperature from those normally found within the body. It was believed that semen collection would prove a most valuable testing ground for proof of principle. Whole organic mushroom powder could not be applied to the collected semen because of its content of particulate matter, as well as increased viscosity to fluids used, such as the extender. Instead, we used ERGO, an essential nutrient only found in mushrooms and produced in increased quantities by two of the mushrooms used in The Matrix™ blend. ERGO in various amounts was added to semen extenders that are commonly used to dilute the sperm samples collected prior to storage

In all three studies at Minitube USA using horse and boar semen, the potent antioxidant ERGO showed significant ability to protect sperm against oxidative stress. In fact, in one study, 50 micromoles of ERGO was almost equal in protective ability to a much higher dose of ERGO, 1 millimole. This result, moreover, occurred at 3.5 hours after collection, with the semen maintained at a temperature of 40 degrees centigrade. Scientists in Germany have recently discovered the presence of a specific transport system for ERGO. The possible presence of this transporter in the head of the sperm may explain the ability of a smaller amount of ERGO to equal the activity of a larger amount, such as through active accumulation within a cell.

The Matrix™ is presently being used in the dressage, show jumping and horse racing disciplines in the United States and Europe. To date, no horses on this nutritional supplement have been known to show any side effects. Several studies are currently underway to help further our understanding of the unique properties and abilities of The Matrix™.

[Oct. 12, 2007] NEWLY PUBLISHED RESEARCH BACKS CLAIM THAT MUSHROOMS ARE A POTENT WEAPON IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

In the battle against cancer, the mushroom may be one of humanity's most potent weapons. Two recently published studies show strong evidence that medicinal mushrooms actually do what mushroom adherents have long claimed - kill cancer cells. Both studies involved Antrodia camphorata, a rare mushroom indigenous to Taiwan and eaten by Taiwanese for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. Antrodia is also one of the mushrooms used in the Mushroom Matrix.<br><a href="http://www.mushroommatrix.com/news-fight-against-cancer.htm" target="_blank"><b>[read more]</b></a>

[Oct. 12, 2007] ANTRODIA, A COMPONENT OF THE MUSHROOM MATRIX, AIDS IN THE TREATMENT OF BREAST CANCER

Deep in the forested backlands of Taiwan grows the Kanehirai tree. As the tree grows in this warm, humid ecosystem, the inside of its trunk decays and forms a hollow, moist, decaying center. Within this protected area, a vermillion red fungus grows. This fungus is a basidiomycete polyporaceae called Antrodia camphorata - a species of mushroom. <br>
<br>
This rare and expensive fungus has been used in Chinese medicine for hundreds of years to address health issues such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, immune function, hypertension and, in herbal form, to treat liver deficiencies such as hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer (Tsai and Lian 1985). Recent research indicates that it also is effective in treating some forms of breast cancer and Antrodia is one of the medicinal mushroom species used in the making of the Mushroom Matrix. <br>
<br>
A recent study by You-Cheng Hseu, Ssu-Ching Chen and associates at the China Medicinal University in Taiwan examined the pathways by which Antrodia is able to destroy two highly invasive types of breast cancer. Cancer of the breast is the most common malignancy in Northwestern European and American women. One common form of treatment is hormone chemotherapy. Unfortunately, approximately one third of women treated with hormones progress into breast cancer metastasis. For these women, hormone chemotherapy initially shows a favorable response but then the cancer resists this therapy, which then leads to death. In order to learn if Antrodia could be used to bypass this hormone failure, this study looked specifically at a cancer which is non-responsive to the hormone, estrogen. <br>

The results of research recently published in Nutrition and Cancer, a leading scientific journal, has found evidence that Antrodia camphorata, a rare mushroom indigenous to Taiwan, is effective in the fight against prostate cancer. Antrodia is one of several medicinal mushroom species used in the Mushroom Matrix. <br>
<br>
The study was performed by researchers at the Institute of Medical Science College of Medicine at Taipei. Antrodia has been used in Taiwan (formerly Formosa) since the 18th century to treat diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypertension, itchy skin and hepatitis. It has also been eaten for its anti-inflammatory and immunomdulating effects (2-7). Local Taiwanese folklore has touted the benefits of this unique and precious mushroom as being rich in polysaccharides, isoflavanoids, triterpenes, and polyphenols (1). Scientific research now shows that Antrodia has anti-cancer effects on two different prostate cancer cell types, the PC-3 and the LNCaP.<br><a href="http://www.mushroommatrix.com/news-cancer-fighting-properties.htm" target="_blank"><b>[read more]</b></a>

[Oct. 3, 2007] MEDICAL RESEARCH BACKS THE ANCIENT CLAIMS OF THE BENEFITS OF MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS

A growing number of people are rediscovering the benefits from one of nature's oldest food sources - the mushroom. Often confusing to people, however, is the distinction between the mushrooms found on supermarket shelves and the "medicinal" mushroom varieties used, even by modern medical doctors, in the prevention and treatment of disease.<br><br>
As a food source, mushrooms, in general, are a healthy addition to any diet because they contain relatively high concentrations of protein, fiber, minerals, B vitamins and ascorbic acid. Medicinal mushrooms, such as those used in the Mushroom Matrix, provide much more potent and targeted health benefits. The use of mushrooms for medical purposes dates back to ancient times. And while there have always been some holistic health practitioners in the Western world who have made use of mushrooms in treating their patients, it was among cultures of the Eastern world, such as in China, that the real "art" of using medicinal mushrooms survived through the centuries.<br><a href="http://www.mushroommatrix.com/news-discovering-matrix-benefits.htm" target="_blank"><b>[read more]</b></a>

[Sep 4, 2007] THE MUSHROOM MATRIX CONGRATULATES KENTUCKY DERBY-WINNING TRAINER CARL NAFZGER ON HIS SUCCESSES AT SARATOGA

It's been a successful run at Saratoga for Mushroom Matrix supporter Carl Nafzger. Two of the trainer's horses were big winners during this year's Saratoga racing season. Street Sense, this year's Kentucky Derby winner, emerged victorious in the $1 million Travers Stakes and Lady Joanne was winner of the $600,000 Alabama Stakes. <br>
<br>
Nafzger has endorsed the Mushroom Matrix because he believes it helps maintain the overall health of horses and said both Street Sense and Lady Joanne are fed the Matrix as part of their nutritional program. Although proud of all of his horses, Nafzger had special praise for Street Sense, a horse that he says has "real class." <br>
<br>
"I'm a firm believer that when horses are born, they are what God made them and all we can do is not mess them up," he said. "Class is something we can't define, but Street Sense has it. I'm simply his caretaker and I've been blessed to take care of this horse. I've been taking care of horses for 35 years and I've never before had anything like this walk through my barn."<br><a href="http://www.mushroommatrix.com/news-kentucky-derby-winner-carl-nafzger.htm" target="_blank"><b>[read more]</b></a>
